If you’re concerned about students falling behind due to COVID-19…
You’re not alone. Parents across America generally believe that their students did not receive the same level of education in the last several months of the 2019/2020 school year and the 2020/2021 school year that they would have received had been physically present in school.
Per the Education Trust, “Nearly 9 in 10 parents are worried about their children falling behind academically due to coronavirus-related school closures, ranking higher than any other financial or socioemotional concern.“
According to a New York Times article, “New research suggests that by September, most students will have fallen behind where they would have been if they had stayed in classrooms, with some losing the equivalent of a full school year’s worth of academic gains.“
That’s a startling statement. It is buttressed by a white paper written for the NWEA (Northwest Evaluation Association) that reached similar conclusions, “Preliminary COVID slide estimates suggest students will return in fall 2020 with roughly 70% of the learning gains in reading relative to a typical school year. However, in mathematics, students are likely to show much smaller learning gains, returning with less than 50% of the learning gains and in some grades, nearly a full year behind what we would observe in normal conditions.“
None of the above is meant to be an indictment of our hard-working teachers throughout the country. They were thrown into an extremely challenging and new situation with little or no notice. As both colleagues and parents ourselves, we are grateful for the hours of planning, learning, and preparing that they have undergone to help our students through this challenging time. However, many of our students need help to get back on track with where they should be academically.
At PrepSquared, we can allay your fears about students falling behind due to COVID-19, with the following programs/options:
Summer Jumpstart
- Our Summer Jumpstart programs help students hit the ground running in the fall in their respective math courses.
Individual Tutoring
- Our Individual Tutoring packages help students regain the momentum lost in core subjects during Covid-19.
AP Calculus AB Parallel Class
- Any student who finished Pre-Calculus this last spring should consider our AP Calculus AB Parallel Class in the fall. Taught by PrepSquared founder, Vinay Bhawnani, each class will cover the material taught in school that week. The course also includes test preparation for the spring AP Calculus AB test. With its small class size (10 students) and weekly office hours for students who need additional help with homework and/or concepts, it’s great insurance of success for the concerned math student.
